Tovino Thomas’ latest Malayalam release, Narivetta, directed by Anuraj Manohar, has steadily crossed the ₹22 crore mark globally as it approaches the end of its second week in theaters. Rooted deeply in the socio-political landscape of Kerala’s tribal regions, the film highlights issues like land rights, indigenous resistance, and the role of government institutions.

Released on May 23, 2025, Narivetta tells the story of Varghese Peter (played by Tovino Thomas), a police constable assigned to a remote tribal area during the 2003 Muthanga tribal protest. The narrative focuses on the unrest caused by land eviction and forest rights conflicts.

According to industry tracker AB George, the film has grossed approximately ₹13.3 crore in Kerala alone, with additional earnings from other Indian states and overseas markets pushing the worldwide total past ₹22 crore. The film stars Suraj Venjaramoodu as Basheer Ahammed and marks Tamil actor-director Cheran’s Malayalam debut as DIG Raghuram Keshavadas. The supporting cast also includes Arya Salim, Pranav Teophine, Priyamvada Krishnan, and Badusha NM.

Produced by Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan under the Indian Cinema Company banner, the film’s screenplay is by Abin Joseph, with Jakes Bejoy composing the music. Cinematography is handled by Vijay, editing by Shameer Muhammad, and sound design by Ranganath Ravee.
