Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 8: Kamal Haasan & Silambarasan’s Film Faces Earnings Dip

Thug Life Box Office Collection:

Thug Life, the Tamil gangster film headlined by Kamal Haasan, wrapped up its first week in Indian theaters following its release on June 5, 2025, with collections showing a noticeable dip after an initially strong opening. Directed by Mani Ratnam and co-written by Kamal Haasan, the film marked a high-profile reunion of the two legends nearly four decades after Nayakan (1987). Despite the buzz, the film has seen a downward trend in daily earnings following its debut.

According to early estimates from Indian box office tracker Sacnilk, Thug Life has earned approximately ₹1.15 crore across all languages on its eighth day, taking its total domestic box office collection to around ₹43.37 crore. It hit screens in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, with screenings available in regular, IMAX, and EPIQ formats.

The opening day saw the film collect ₹15.5 crore (₹13.35 crore from Tamil), marking a promising start. However, this momentum didn't sustain, with Day 2 (Friday) witnessing a sharp drop of over 50%, earning ₹7.15 crore. The weekend brought slight relief, with Saturday and Sunday earning ₹7.75 crore and ₹6.5 crore, respectively. However, collections dipped during the weekdays, with earnings dropping to ₹2.3 crore on Monday, ₹1.8 crore on Tuesday, and ₹1.22 crore on Wednesday.

Revenge Drama Faces Box Office Struggles Despite Star Power

The film's narrative revolves around Rangaraaya Sakthivel, a once-powerful mafia leader in New Delhi, who embarks on a path of retribution after being betrayed by those closest to him—including his own brother and adopted son. Spanning multiple decades, Thug Life blends themes of betrayal, revenge, and eventual redemption.

Despite its scale, ensemble cast, and the legacy of its creators, Thug Life has faced largely negative critical reception. This has likely impacted its staying power at the box office, especially beyond the first weekend. The ensemble cast includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, and several others.

The film was jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies, with A. R. Rahman handling the music, cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran, and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. Filming took place in various locations, including Chennai, Pondicherry, and parts of North India.

With the second weekend approaching, the film's performance over the next few days will determine whether it can stabilize or continue its decline.
